printing reinvented

Today in Lisbon, Portugal, HP Inc. announced more than 15 new PageWide, OfficeJet Pro, and LaserJet printers and All-in-Ones – as well as new A3 PageWide copier/MFPs to come – and a new Secure Managed Print Services solution.

New PageWide Models, and Soon-to-Come PageWide A3 Copier/MFPs

2016 pagewide series

HP’s new PageWide series.

The new brand of HP PageWide color-inkjet business-class printers and All-in-Ones are designed for small- and mid-size businesses and workgroups, designed to provide professional-level color printing, “best-in-class” cost of ownership, fastest print speeds, best energy efficiency, and the world’s most “advanced security and management features” in this class.

HP says its PageWide color-inkjet printing technology – in which a stationary inkjet print head spans the width of the page for much faster inkjet printing – has been proven to be a reliable, scalable print technology that’s been used to print more than 140 billion pages via HP printers, including HP commercial large-format printers and web presses, the latter of which typically stack multiple print heads.

In addition to its new introductions today, which print and scan on up 8.5″x14″ (A4), HP says it will also expand PageWide Technology to “redefine the copier market” with a new portfolio of A3 (print on up to 11″x17″) MFPs that use PageWide color-inkjet printing.

With HP’s PageWide color-inkjet printing, instead of four print heads (one each for cyan, yellow, magenta, and black ink) moving back-and-forth across the page, with paper feeding repeatedly stopping-and-starting, there’s only one stationary print head, and paper feeds continuously, with no stopping-and-starting, for much faster print speed, less noise and vibration, and better reliability.

The new HP PageWide models will be available through HP’s channel partners and at select retail stores. HP also says this new portfolio increases the number of managed devices designed for contractual channel partners and managed print services (MPS) engagements. It also says these contractual HP PageWide printers will enable HP channel partners to provide low cost of operation with HP’s highest-capacity supplies, a three-year print-head warranty, faster speeds, and higher recommended monthly print volume for some models, as well as integration with HP JetAdvantage print-fleet management and third-party management tools.

The new HP PageWide printers and All-in-Ones, which will include Ethernet-wired and wireless network-connectivity options, include:

  • The HP PageWide Enterprise Color 556 and HP PageWide Enterprise Color MFP 586. These printers are designed for small and mid-size businesses and work groups printing up to 15,000 pages per month, and are rated at up to 75 ppm. New Secure Managed Print Services

HP is also introducing a new managed print services (MPS) offering focused on security. Called Secure MPS, it’s designed to enable security experts to help customers secure their print fleets with the “strongest protections available in the industry,” and then maintain that security over time to address evolving threats and compliance requirements.

HP Secure MPS’s protections include:

  • Printers with “self-healing” security capabilities – see our story here for more on self-healing security capabilities.
  • Security software to detect threats, as well as protect, monitor, and manage the printer fleet.
  • Data encryption to protect confidential data.
  • Reporting for regulatory and compliance audits.
  • Security experts to help develop a printer-security plan for the customer.

For more information on Secure MPS, visit HP here.

HP says it’s also updated it HP JetAdvantage Security Manager software, a policy-based printer-security compliance solution that’s designed to enable greater access into what firmware updates have been applied across the HP printer fleet. This feature enables customers to see which of their printers are protected by HP’s printer security, including: HP Sure Start BIOS protection, whitelisting, and run-time intrusion detection. HP Enterprise may also now be monitored for malicious activity by the SIEM tool Splunk. Based on a sampling of HP JetAdvantage Security Manager functionality, customers can also sign-up for HP Quick Assess, a free one-hour phone session to assess the vulnerability of their HP printer fleet (up to 20 devices) here.
